PEN Oakland
PEN Oakland, was launched in fall, 1989, by Ishmael Reed, with soon-to-be co-founders Floyd Salas, Reginald Lockett and Claire Ortalda. The idea was to form a multicultural chapter of PEN, the international organization of poets, essayists, and novelists. The New York Times has called us "the blue collar PEN." Tennessee Reed is presently Chairperson of this chapter.
KONCH Magazine
Since 1990, Konch has been publishing American and international writers of the highest merit. It switched from wholly hard copy print editions to an online publication in January, 1999. Konch is sustained by Ishmael Reed, Tennessee Reed and our readers, granting us an independence that those zines with corporate sponsorship lack. Contributors to Konch have submitted work that is innovative and serene, but we reserve the right to be rowdy. The Jim Crow Media and literary Scene Have Failed Us.
